Reigniting a Nation For Greatness is the national goal of Jamaica as she celebrates her 60 years of Independence.
It is paramount to have national goals as a Nation; having clear defined strategies in achieving those goals are equally important.
In a country like Jamaica that has great natural and human resources, a diverse society and an economy that is growing, there is no reason why it should not be able to achieve greatness. Unfortunately, we have seen in the past that our nation has rarely lived up to its potential.
The government has a role to play in directing the efforts of the people towards achieving that greatness. The government can do this by providing leadership, and by setting an example for others to follow.
The government should provide leadership by making sure that all its policies support economic development and job creation. This will include ensuring that all investments are made wisely, so that when there is an investment made in any sector, it leads to more jobs being created.
The government should also provide leadership by ensuring that our education system is up to date, and prepared for the challenges of tomorrow’s world. This will entail ensuring that our children receive a good education, so they can compete internationally with their counterparts from other countries.
Finally, the government should provide leadership by making sure that regulations are enforced fairly and transparently as much as possible. This will help ensure that businesses know what they can expect when they invest in certain sectors or regions of Jamaica.
